Councillor update | Friday 17 Jan

I hope everyone is having a safe and happy start to the new year. I attended a few end-of-year events in 2024 and was even able to make it to the New Years Eve celebration at Dandenong, coming from a VICSES deployment in Ballarat, assisting with base camp operations. It’s not great to think that this was my second year in a row being deployed over the Christmas and/or New Year break due to extreme weather events outside of our area. I’m a little biased, but I think this just highlights the need for proactive planning and strategy, in the face of manmade climate change. It personally pushes me to think about what we need to do for our own local community to protect and empower our residents.

From 10/12/24 to 17/1/25, I attended the following:

    • Meeting with Strategic Transport Engineer
    • Volunteer Christmas dinner
    • Meeting with Executive Director Community Strengthening Community, Peta Gillies
    • End of Year Christmas dinner
    • Greater Dandenong Environment Group AGM
    • Springvale Asian Business Association (SABA) Nighttime Initiative
    • Staff Christmas breakfast
    • Staff Christmas lunch
    • Meeting with Neighbourhood Watch Greater Dandenong president
    • New Year’s Eve celebration
    • Meeting with Acting Executive Director Community Strengthening / Manager Community Wellbeing, Marcus Forster

Due to scheduling conflicts with neighboring Councillor representatives, it was decided that attending the December meeting of the Eastern Transport Coalition would be ineffective. I am very excited to attend my first meeting in February, when all representatives are available.

As always, if you have any questions or feedback about our community, please reach out to me – either by email at isabella.do@cgd.vic.gov.au or call/text me at 0427 161 104. I will aim to get back to you within 24 hours, however, please don’t hesitate to give me a nudge if it’s urgent or I haven’t gotten back to you within that timeframe.
