When I was running for Council last year, I researched like a madman to figure out which roads were managed by Council and which were the responsibility of the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) because management responsibilities can change! Roads can be reclassified from local to arterial, transferring management from the Council to State Government.
Why does this matter though? Depending on who manages the road, your approach to addressing issues can vary. If it’s a state road, you need to report it to the DTP. However, if you inform your local Councillor, in this case, myself, I can then also present the issue to our local MP. In Keysborough South Ward, this is Tim Richardson.
Recently, it was brought to my attention that there were frequent accidents occurring on Hutton Road, outside the local church. However, this was not an issue that Council was aware of. One likely reason is that accidents are not being reported (either to Council, DTP, or VicPol).
Our Transport and Civil Development Team has contacted the DTP to see if they are aware of any recent accidents and if any investigation has occurred.
Moving forward, we recommend that churchgoers with concerns or who witness non-urgent accidents or near misses should report these directly to the Victorian Government. This can be done using this link here: Submit a report or enquiry to Transport Victoria : VicRoads or use Snap Send Solve. Police enquiries will also go to the Department of Transport and Planning.
